If you live, work or visit Manchester City Centre you’ll need to watch out for the council’s new parking restrictions. Previously drivers have been offered free parking everyday from 6pm and all day Sunday… but not anymore. From Monday 24th October, Manchester City Council new measures include Sunday payments and late-evening charges. Here are the main changes:
Parking meters
- From Monday 24 October, charges will apply to marked parking spaces from 8am-8pm Monday to Sunday, adding an extra two hours in the evening, and also all day Sunday.
- One hour maximum stay spaces will be extended to two hours maximum stay.
- Once parked, drivers can return to ‘top up’ their ticket as long as they don’t exceed the maximum time stated on the meter.
Single yellow lines and loading bays
- From Monday 24 October, parking on single yellow lines will only be allowed 8pm-8am.
- From Monday 24 October, current loading bays that operate from Monday to Saturday 8am – 6pm will change to Monday to Sunday 8am – 8pm.
- New hours of operation to shared use spaces: please check signage upon arrival.
Parking in marked spaces
- This will continue to be free of charge on Bank Holidays.
Other changes will also apply
- Residents parking changes to make permits valid Mon-Fri 8am-9am and 5pm-8pm, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
- New pricing structure – pay for each 30 minutes (rather than per 15 minutes).
