The city centre just gets better by the month. The Metrolink has five lines with more planned and shopping Manchester city centre has the UK’s largest inner-city shopping centre, the Manchester Arndale. It has over 240 shops and departments stores and nearby is the Printworks with its 19 screen Odeon cinema.
There are so many places to eat such as Felicini, a new canalside restaurant but being in Manchester almost demands a visit – just a five minute taxi ride of 10 minute bus from the city centre – to the Curry Mile, Rusholme which has over 70 Asian restaurants to choose from.
Also in the centre is one of Manchester’s most beautiful buildings, the John Rylands Library, the Manchester Art Gallery and MOSI – the Museum of Science and Science and Industry.
If having a city centre lifestyle is up your street then come and talk to the Manchester city centre estate agent that knows its stuff – Philip James Manchester. And we market properties not only in the city centre, but in Salford Quays central, Salford Quays, Hulme and Whalley Range.
Come and see us at 293, Deansgate (near the Hilton Hotel) or contact us on 0161 828 8200 or email us at rob.cuffe@philipjames.co.uk

Manchester’s top 3 apartment blocks

1. No.1 Deansgate

No.1 Deansgate is Manchester’s most sought-after apartment block. Located on the north-western edge of the city centre this 14-storey glass tower was built in 2002 and has 88 high-quality apartments. It’s one of only a handful of apartment blocks located in the middle of Manchester’s retail area and is surrounded by some of the city’s best shops, bars and restaurants.
Harvey Nichols, M&S and Selfridges, the city’s three biggest and best stores are next door and Manchester’s famous Grade-II listed Royal Exchange Theatre is on the other side of Market Street. There are four apartment styles; studio and 1-bedroom apartments on the lower floors, 2-bed apartments on the middle floors and a number of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom penthouses on the top floors.
The building has an angled profile with a sloping roof, providing the penthouses with sunken hidden terraces and panoramic views across north Manchester. The most widely-available apartments are the 2-bedroom units from levels 1 to 8; these larger-than-average apartments all have full-length winter balconies with Louvre-glassed walls and views over Deansgate, Market Street and the nearby Cathedral.
There is a large glass-fronted double-height foyer with a concierge and plenty of underground parking. The penthouses at No.1 Deansgate are the largest in Manchester with rental prices from £3,500pcm and sale prices from £1.5m.

2. Century Buildings

Located on the western-edge of the city centre, Century Buildings is the second most-expensive apartment block in Manchester with 1-bedroom apartments ranging from £695 to £850pcm and 2-bedroom apartments priced from £1,150pcm to £1,500pcm. There are two separate sections to Century Buildings; a 1960s office conversion and a Grade-II listed Edwardian warehouse.
Both sections of the building have dual-aspect views with west-facing views of the River Irwell and east-facing views of St. Mary’s Parsonage, one of the few public parks in the city centre. The 1960s office conversion is the brighter and more contemporary building with full-height windows, large corner bedrooms and wide decked-balconies, whilst the Edwardian conversion is more quirky and is filled with original features from wooden-panelled walls to ornate plastered decorative ceilings and open fires. The river-facing apartments are the most popular because they offer rare west-facing water views and some of the widest glass-fronted balconies in Manchester.
Century Buildings is very well finished inside with expensive kitchens, marble work tops and solid wooden floors and the location is very central; you can walk to the boutique fashion shops on King Street in a couple of minutes and it’s next door to House of Fraser, Manchester’s most famous department store.
RENTAL PRICES 1-beds from £750pcm, 2-beds from £1,150pcm, Penthouses from £2,000pcm

3. Leftbank

Leftbank is one of the largest apartment complexes in city centre and the only residential development in Spinningfields, Manchester’s central business district. Located on the western-fringes of the city centre, Spinningfields is the Canary Wharf of Manchester; a large modern mixed-use development with over 250,000sqft of office space spread across 6 acres of prime city centre land.
A number of landmark companies have relocated their offices to Spinningfields, so if you work at Deloitte, Halliwells Solicitors, HSBC, Grant Thornton or the Royal Bank of Scotland you’ll be able to leave your apartment and be at your desk in less than 5 minutes. Leftbank’s popularity with blue-chip companies and high-earning professionals has kept prices high and it’s now nearly impossible to find a 2-bedroom apartment for under £1,000pcm.
But the prices are justified; Leftbank apartments are some of the largest in Manchester with generous living spaces, huge bedrooms and rambling communal areas. The long slim building has west-facing river views at the back and south/east-facing views across Spinningfields from the front.
The owners of Spinningfields have put a lot of effort into making this large office district into a more informal and friendly place to live and one the whole it’s been successful with a wide number of bars and restaurants, plus an open air cinema in the summer and an ice rink in the winter.
